The Head Injury Clinic was established in 1996 by Dr. Ravi Kant. Later the name was changed to NeuroPsychiatry Center to reflect the broad spectrum of services we provide for children and adults. The Acupuncture Center was added to provide more comprehensive services to patients utilizing both eastern and western medicine methods. We treat acute and chronic pain and many chronic medical conditions with medical acupuncture.
Medical Acupuncture Services
Medical acupuncture is a form of acupuncture utilizing traditional Chinese acupuncture techniques with some modifications based on Western medical advances, when needed in a case. Medical acupuncture is done by a physician who has been trained in the western system of medicine to evaluate, diagnose and treat medical conditions. This helps him/her to provide the ‘best of both worlds’ to the patient. Moreover, physician can order tests and prescribe medications as needed, thus making it a one-stop treatment. Services provided at the Acupuncture Center include:
- Medical Acupuncture
- Child and Adult Psychiatry

About Acupuncture Center
The Acupuncture Center was established at NeuroPsychiatry Center in 1999 after Ravi Kant finished his acupuncture training from the University of California in LA (UCLA). Dr. Kant currently practices neuropsychiatry with focus on medical and brain injury related conditions. The purpose of adding acupuncture service was to provide comprehensive services to brain injury patients who were not getting any more benefits from traditional medical treatments.

More and more patients and their physicians are realizing the limitations of the western medical system in managing chronic medical condition that is further complicated by medication interactions and their side effects. They are now starting to realize the benefits of other treatment interventions such as acupuncture that have stood the test of time over more than 3000 years.
Acupuncture services are not covered by most medical insurance companies. Worker’s Compensation and Automobile accident policies cover the acupuncture services if provided for covered conditions. Usually, Auto insurance has a limit of $5000 to $10000 per claim and in many cases it is already exhausted by treatments at other facilities esp a visit to ER and MRIs etc. You will need to check about it with your claim representative. We now accept UPMC insurance for acupuncture for the following diagnoses: Migraines, Arthritis, Neck/Back Pain
We accept cash, checks, and credit cards.
