Independent Medical Evaluations (IME) and Review of Medical Records

Dr. Kant has been involved in the treatment of patients who have suffered brain injury due to accidents at work, home, or patients who have been involved in motor vehicle accidents. Because of his expertise in evaluating and treating such patients, in addition to his extensive research experience, he is often asked to perform review of medical records for patients receiving treatments by other providers and at times to perform independent medical examinations (IMEs). He has testified in many such cases for the courts.

IME or Independent Medical Evaluation occurs when a patient’s employer, insurance carrier, workers’ compensation or auto insurance carrier requests an evaluation for the purpose of determining the cause, extent, and/or medical treatment of a work-related or other injury. The patient has not previously been involved in this physician’s care and there is no doctor-patient relationship.
